Take Tommy Tuberville’s name off the board for potential USF replacements.

A source close to the Texas Tech coaching search told ESPN.com that Tuberville will be named the next football coach at a news conference Sunday.

USF launched a national search for a new coach after Jim Leavitt was fired Friday because an investigation revealed he grabbed walk-on Joel Miller by the throat and slapped him in the face twice during halftime of a game against Louisville on Nov. 21.

Here is Friday’s full story.

Other potential candidates for the USF coaching job are former Clemson coach Tommy Bowden, Florida defensive line coach and former USF assistant Dan McCarney and East Carolina coach Skip Holtz. A source told ESPN.com that Michigan offensive coordinator Calvin Magee is also a potential candidate.
