A source told ESPN.com that former Marshall head coach Mark Snyder will be USF’s defensive coordinator under new head coach Skip Holtz, who was hired Thursday.

Snyder, 45, was Ohio State’s defensive coordinator  2001-2004 before his tenure as head coach of the Thundering Herd from 2005-2009.  Snyder resigned from Marshall in November after leading the football team to a 6-6 record.

Snyder would replace Joe Tresey, USF’s defensive coordinator last season under former head coach Jim Leavitt.  Tresey was one of five coaches Holtz didn’t retain from Leavitt’s staff after Holtz met with each assistant this past weekend.
