This past week, I talked to Melissa Dalembert, a senior for the USF’s women’s basketball team, about the tragic earthquake that hit her home country of Haiti Tuesday, Jan. 12.

I recently learned her brother Samuel is a center for the Philadelphia 76ers, and he recently took a trip to Haiti with former NBA star Alonzo Mourning as part of the relief effort.

Melissa told me Wednesday she had an injured cousin and other missing family members.  ESPN.com recently wrote about Samuel Dalembert’s trip back to Haiti.

Melissa rejoined her teammates Monday after flying to Miami to be with family.

– An interesting note: Samuel Dalembert is the only Haitian-born player in the NBA.
